Caption Your Life

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
~Proverbs 22:1

Have you ever done that exercise where you try to capture who you are and how you lived your life in short captions, like how you would want your gravestone to read?

I recently told my husband that if we were to develop a family mission statement I would like it to include the phrase "radically obedient." Because obeying the Lord as soon as He speaks, without question, even when it seems insane (like Noah or Abraham), is a trait that I want to characterize our family's faith journey. That is how I would like to be remembered.

Here are a few ideas of what I'd like my stone to read:

She invested her life in following wherever He led.

She loved, she lived, she followed God all the days of her life.

God's love shone through her actions as a wife, mother, and friend.

(Of course, keeping in mind that when I'm gone people will choose to remember the best things and tuck aside the junk parts of my character.)

What would you like your stone to read?

  1. My comment should be:

    She Danced

That's after the song - I Hope You Dance - which says to me that we should live everyday in the fullness that God wants us to live it. It's also after the book - Do You Think I'm Beautiful - which reminds me that God wants to dance with me in this walk called life.

Oh, if people could only say that I danced - what I life I would have lived.

  2. I've decided my above comment could be built on. It could say:

Dancing in the arms of God
    She danced with God
    She's dancing with God

  3. Wow - great post.

    My Headstone . . .hmmm

She walked and talked with Jesus all day long on Earth . . .
She is now in Heaven walking and talking with Jesus - face to face.

  4. I have been thinking about this all day and it is SO difficult for me to come up with something. Seriously. I am at a loss, which rarely happens. Must mean I need to devote some serious thought to this. Hmmmmmm.....

  5. I don't care as much about my stone here on earth as I do the stone that God will hand me when I get to heaven... (Rev. 2:17). Of course the stone in heaven will reflect my stone here, but like you, my goal is to please the Most High! I can't wait to see THAT stone!
